HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (our popular CPR refresher)

Tailored First Aid: Your Local Choice for Practical First Aid Training in the Central West
If you’re searching for a reliance CPR training in the Central West NSW area, you’ve come to the right spot. At Tailored First Aid, we’re a locally owned and operated business dedicated to making life-saving skills straightforward, hands-on, and relevant to your needs—whether you’re an individual, a workplace team, or part of a community group.
We specialise in nationally recognised courses like HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (our popular CPR refresher) and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, delivered in a relaxed, practical way that actually sticks. No fluff—just real scenarios, plenty of time on the manikins, and guidance from experienced trainers who get what works in everyday situations.
What the Course Covers
The training follows the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and teaches you how to respond effectively in a cardiac arrest emergency. Key topics include:
- Recognising and assessing an emergency situation (using the DRSABCD action plan: Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation).
- Ensuring safety for yourself, bystanders, and the casualty.
- Checking for signs of life and recognising when CPR is needed.
- Performing CPR on adults, children, and infants (including chest compressions and rescue breaths).
- Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) correctly.
- Managing an unconscious casualty (e.g., recovery position).
- Displaying respectful behaviour and seeking emergency services assistance.
The course is short—typically 2–4 hours total (often with 1–2 hours of online pre-learning + face-to-face practical session). It involves hands-on practice on manikins (placed on the floor), and you must demonstrate at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin to pass.
Requirements and Assessment
- No formal prerequisites, but you need basic language/literacy skills and the physical ability to perform CPR on the floor.
- Minimum age is usually around 14 (varies by provider).
- Assessment includes theory questions + practical demonstrations.
- On successful completion, you receive a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID009 (nationally recognised).
Validity and Renewal
The certificate is valid for 12 months. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends refreshing CPR skills annually to stay current, as guidelines can update and skills fade.
How It Differs from Broader First Aid Courses
- HLTAID009 is CPR only (quick and focused).
- For full first aid (including CPR + wounds, burns, fractures, etc.), look at HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (valid 3 years, with CPR component renewed yearly).
- HLTAID009 is often included in HLTAID011, so if you need broader training, do the full course.
